The Aviral Plastic Waste Innovation Challenge is an innovative businesses competition to support and showcase innovative solutions in the field of plastic waste management. The objective is to solve existing problems in the two cities of Rishikesh and Haridwar through sustainable technology and business innovations.
For the very first time in India the partnership of the Alliance to End Plastic Waste (The Alliance) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH invites innovative businesses to be part of this grand challenge that will strengthen your chances of working and applying innovative solutions to plastic waste management in Haridwar and Rishikesh.

AVIRAL PLASTIC WASTE INNOVATION CHALLENGE
We will be conducting two separate tracks – two winners will be announced at the end of the challenge; one winner for each track
Create added value and improve plastic waste value chain.
Develop a solution pertaining to plastic waste from the tourist population.
WHAT ARE THE FOCUS AREAS AVIRAL IS WORKING ON?
Improving knowledge and resources of municipalities on plastic waste management
Strengthening the plastic waste value chain and management system
Developing and pilot testing local innovative management and recycling solutions

Enhancing plastic waste awareness
We are looking for innovative technology and business solutions in plastic waste management in the fields of:
WHO CAN APPLY?
Businesses who facilitate innovative solution to reduce the plastic waste problem
WHAT IS THE COMPETITION PROCESS?
Application phase – Submit an entry form and additionally, please submit the CVs of your 3 key team members as well as an overview about existing/previous projects of your entity for reference. Any patents. (Not Mandatory)
Pitch phase – Shortlisted participants will be asked to submit an elevator pitch video (max. two-minute) along with a pitch deck, which will be reviewed by the selection committee.
Q&A phase – The selection committee will evaluate the proposals and get the opportunity to ask specific questions during a Question and Answer Phase with the shortlisted participants
Announcement of winners – For each of the two challenge topics, 1 winners will be chosen to implement pilots with grant support of up to 50,000 EUR
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER MY SOLUTION IS SELECTED?
Selection – After evaluation of the applications received, the top 20 businesses with innovative solutions will be selected from each track (total 40 businesses) and at the end 2 winners (1 from each track) will be announced on the program website.
Compendium – The documentation of the selected innovative businesses and the description of their innovative solutions will be undertaken in the form of a compendium
Online Database – An indexed, searchable online database of the selected solutions will be created . This will be for easy reference and showcase of the businesses and their innovative solutions.
Virtual Event -A virtual event on a convenient date will be hosted, where selected solutions will be showcased to ULBs and stakeholders.
Pilot testing of the selected solution – Will be supported with selected ULBs
